New Digital Waste Tracking Mandate

From October 2026, every waste carrier in England must digitally record each waste journey, from collection to final destination. These records must be submitted to DEFRA’s new Digital Waste Tracking system, and paper-based Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs) will no longer be accepted.

DEFRA’s Digital Waste Tracking 2026 mandate is the single biggest change waste operators in the UK have faced in more than a decade. As a result, every waste carrier needs to find software that will provide digital trails of all transactions and produce DEFRA-compliant digital WTNs. That’s what we do at Wastetracka.
